What is Blockchain Technology?
Blockchain technology is a distributed ledger model that records transactions across a network of participating computers. It uses cryptographic methods and consensus rules to help participants validate shared records without placing every decision under one central system owner.
Depending on the architecture, recorded events can provide a transparent and tamper-evident history for authorized participants, and programmable smart contracts can trigger defined actions when agreed conditions are met. These characteristics do not automatically make a solution secure, private, accurate, compliant, or appropriate; identity, source-data quality, permissions, governance, key management, integration, and operating controls still matter.
Potential applications extend beyond cryptocurrency to supply-chain traceability, asset provenance, multi-party workflows, document verification, and other situations where several organizations need a shared record. A simpler database, integration platform, event stream, or audit trail should still be evaluated first.
